Setup Development in Physics Research Lab for Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)
Experimental physicists and engineers use Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) setup to
grow high-quality thin films for a variety of ranges such as sensors, solar cells, and photocatalytic
dye degradation applications. Dr. Tanvir Hussain, who is currently working as an Assistant
Professor & Lab Co-ordinator at the Physics Department, has recently developed (in-house) the
CVD setup in merely 0.45 million PKR, thereby saving a huge research budget. It is pertinent to
mention that the price for a complete functional CVD set up in the international market is ~ 2.5
million PKR (on average).
Specifically, Dr. Tanvir Hussain has managed to purchase all the ancillary and auxiliary
components of the CVD setup (for instance vacuum flanges, gas cylinders, gauges, rotary pumps,
etc.) from the local market. He along with his MS graduate student Mr. Muhammad Bilal has
managed to repair the parts and assembled them into a single working unit. Till date, several
graduate students of the Physics department have completed their master’s Thesis by using the
aforementioned CVD setup. More importantly, the CVD is now all set for its commercial use, as
well.
