11th November 2025 - Department of Physics Visit to the Laser & Optronics Center, UET, Lahore
The Department of Physics, UMT, visited the Laser and Optronics Center at UET Lahore on 11th November 2025 for an enriching academic and technical tour. Our faculty representatives included Prof. Dr. Zaheer Hussain Shah, Associate Professor Dr. Sidra Khalid, Associate Professor Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Ms. Hira Yasin, Ms. Sidra Ashraf, and Mr. Syed Nasrullah Ali Qazi, accompanied by BS and MS Physics students. The visit was hosted by Prof. Dr. Khurram Siraj, Head of the Laser & Optronics Center, who warmly welcomed the UMT delegation and guided them through state-of-the-art research facilities. The team explored the Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Lab, where students learned about high-resolution imaging at the atomic scale using electron beams, linking theoretical nanoscience concepts with real laboratory applications. They also visited the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Laboratory and observed how diffraction patterns reveal structural and material properties, deepening their understanding of crystal analysis techniques essential in physics and engineering. In the Sample Collection and Preparation Office, the staff briefed the group on specimen handling, preparation processes, and precision requirements for accurate measurements, offering students valuable insight into professional research workflows.
Throughout the tour, students interacted actively with UET faculty and researchers, discussing laser technologies, photonics, optical fiber systems, and various advanced material characterization devices. These conversations significantly enhanced their learning and broadened their vision of modern scientific instrumentation and its industrial and academic applications. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Rafique also joined the meeting with UMT faculty, where discussions centered around potential collaborative research opportunities. As a gesture of gratitude, the Department of Physics, UMT, presented a Token of Appreciation to Prof. Dr. Khurram Siraj for his hospitality, time, and detailed guidance. Special thanks are extended to Associate Professor Dr. Sidra Khalid for her efforts and coordination in arranging this successful academic visit.
