Guest Lecture - Leveraging Electrochromic Supercapacitor Smart Windows for Futuristic Buildings

Friday, January 10, 2025

The Department of Physics was honored to host a distinguished guest lecture by Dr. Numan Arshid, Associate Professor and Head of SCEEST at Sunway University, on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Topic:

Leveraging Electrochromic Supercapacitor Smart Windows for Futuristic Buildings

Dr. Arshid delivered an engaging and research-intensive lecture on the integration of electrochromic materials with supercapacitor technology to develop intelligent smart window systems. He explained how electrochromic supercapacitors can simultaneously function as energy storage devices and light-modulating systems, offering innovative solutions for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings.

The lecture covered:

  • Fundamentals of electrochromic materials and charge storage mechanisms

  • Design and working principles of electrochromic supercapacitors

  • Integration of smart window systems in modern architectural design

  • Applications in green buildings and smart cities

  • Future prospects in sustainable energy technologies

Dr. Arshid highlighted the growing demand for multifunctional materials that combine energy storage with adaptive optical properties, emphasizing their role in reducing energy consumption in futuristic buildings.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students and faculty explored research collaborations, commercialization potential, and emerging trends in advanced functional materials.

The Department of Physics extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Numan Arshid for sharing his expertise and inspiring students toward interdisciplinary research at the intersection of materials science, energy storage, and sustainable architecture.
