13th November 2025 - Industrial Visit to Newage Cables
The Department of Physics, UMT, visited Newage Cables (Pvt) Ltd. on 13th November 2025, where faculty members including Professor Dr. Arshad Majid Mirza, Associate Dean Professor Dr. Muhammad Imran Jamil, Chairperson Associate Professor Dr. Tanvir Hussain, Professor Dr. Zaheer Hussain Shah, Associate Professor Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain, Associate Professor Dr. Sidra Khalid, and Ms. Sidra Ashraf, along with BS and MS Physics students, were warmly welcomed by the Newage management and engineering team. The visit provided students and faculty with an excellent opportunity to witness the operations of one of Pakistan’s leading cable manufacturers, known for its advanced production facilities and adherence to high international standards.
During the guided tour, the Newage team introduced our delegation to various stages of cable manufacturing, including conductor drawing, insulation, armouring, and quality testing. Students observed the company’s state-of-the-art testing procedures, high-voltage testing setups, and specialized in-house labs that ensure each product meets strict safety and performance requirements. The hosts also discussed the company’s wide range of products, from low- and medium-voltage cables to fire-resistant and industrial-grade cables, demonstrating how physics principles form the foundation of every stage of the production process.
A meaningful exchange took place between our students and the Newage engineers, who were generous in answering questions about the physics behind material selection, dielectric strength, thermal behaviour of cables, environmental safety protocols, and quality assurance mechanisms. This interaction allowed students to connect classroom concepts with real industrial practices, deepening their understanding of applied physics in large-scale manufacturing environments. The Newage staff appreciated the curiosity and technical understanding displayed by our students, making the session both educational and engaging.
Towards the end of the visit, the Department of Physics presented a token of appreciation to the Newage Cables team in gratitude for their hospitality, time, and the valuable knowledge shared during the tour. The trip proved to be highly enriching, strengthening the link between academia and industry and inspiring students to explore potential career paths in engineering, materials science, and industrial quality control. A special thanks goes to Dr. Sidra Khalid for organizing and coordinating the visit, whose efforts ensured the trip was smooth, productive, and beneficial for everyone involved.
