UMT Inaugurated Centre for Space Science & Astronomy with Stargazing Night

Lahore, April 23, 2026: The University of Management and Technology (UMT) inaugurated the UMT Centre for Space Science & Astronomy (CSSA) with an engaging Stargazing Night held at UMT Greens on April 23, 2026. The event marked an important step towards promoting space science, astronomy, astronomical research, scientific innovation, and public outreach at the University.

The inauguration brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and astronomy enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the establishment of the Centre and its vision of fostering greater interest and engagement in space sciences. The event featured insightful addresses by distinguished guests and academic leaders. Mr. Roshan Bukhari, President of the Lahore Astronomical Society, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the importance of astronomy outreach, scientific learning, and public engagement in space sciences. Mr. Muhammad Ali also shared valuable remarks, emphasizing curiosity-driven learning and encouraging youth participation in astronomy and space exploration.

The event also featured an introduction to the UMT Centre for Space Science & Astronomy and the UMT Space & Astronomy Society, highlighting their role in creating opportunities for students and researchers to explore astronomy, space science, observational astronomy, and related fields. A technical briefing was also delivered by Sky Deep Corporation, providing participants with an overview of astronomical observation and telescope technology.

The official CSSA logo was also unveiled during the ceremony, followed by a group photography session with the distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and organizers.  Along with the Department of Mathematics under the direction of Dr. Syed Ali Mardan Azmi, the Centre's activities were coordinated and organized from the Department of Physics side including  Syed Nasrullah Ali Qazi, Joun Ali Faraz, and Qurban Ali, who contributed to the successful organization of the inauguration and Stargazing Night.

The highlight of the evening was the live telescope observation session, during which participants observed celestial objects including the Moon, Venus, and Jupiter through professional telescopes. The observation session provided students and attendees with an opportunity to experience the night sky directly and develop a deeper appreciation for observational astronomy.

The inauguration of the UMT Centre for Space Science & Astronomy marked the beginning of a new platform for promoting astronomical research, space science education, student engagement, and scientific outreach at UMT. The University expressed its appreciation to the distinguished guests, astronomical societies, faculty members, students, organizers, and all participants whose contributions helped make the event a memorable and successful occasion.
