On May 16th, 2024, the Department of Physics organized an exciting tour for its students to the Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics (CSSP) at the University of Punjab. The visiting team included esteemed faculty members such as Dr. Muhammad Imran Jamil (Department Chair), Prof. Dr. Arshad Majid Mirza, Dr. Zaheer Hussain Shah, Dr. Sidra Khalid, Dr. Muhammad Tahir, Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain, Dr. Shamsa Knawal, Mr. Syed Nasrullah Ali Qazi, Mrs. Sidra Asharf, and Ms. Hudabia Ashraf, along with undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Upon arrival, the group received a warm welcome from distinguished CSSP scientists, including Professor Dr. Shahzad Naseem, Professor Dr. Saira Riaz, and Associate Professor Dr. Shahid Atiq. The hosts provided a comprehensive guided tour of the institute, showcasing advanced lab facilities and equipment used in Solid State and Material Science research. The tour was split into two groups: one led by Professor Dr. Saira Riaz for female participants, and the other by Associate Professor Dr. Shahid Atiq for male participants.
Students visited the Process Lab, where they learned about techniques such as Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM), Electron Microscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, and X-ray Diffraction. In the Chemical Lab, they explored Material Synthesis Techniques. These visits offered students valuable insights into experimental methods and procedures for measuring the optical, electrical, and magnetic properties of materials.
The interaction with CSSP’s faculty, lab representatives, and postgraduate students was particularly beneficial for the UMT students, fostering knowledge exchange and potential future collaborations between the Department of Physics at UMT and CSSP.
At the end of the visit, the Physics faculty presented tokens of appreciation to Professor Dr. Shahzad Naseem, Professor Dr. Saira Riaz, and Associate Professor Dr. Shahid Atiq, expressing their gratitude for hosting the tour. Special thanks areextended to Dr. Muhammad Tahir for organizing and coordinating this enriching experience.
