Physics is the fundamental natural science that aims to investigate and unravel the fundamental principles that govern physical universe ranging from the cosmos to the atomic scale. By its essence, physicist study the physical nature of the universe that includes the matter, energy and space-time and at the same time they design experiments to discover and establish physical laws that explain the workings of physical phenomena surrounding our reality. With the constant research and development in physics has played key and critical role in the advancement of human civilization in science and technology.
The Department of Physics at UMT started in 2013. Initially, it started to serve in teaching basic science courses to various programs required by schools and departments at UMT. Eventually with the increasing recruitment of the faculty and the development of the physics curriculum, the Department of Physics started to offers its own BS, MS and PhD programs in order to train the prospective students in the careers of physics and provide necessary skills and knowledge to become next generation physicist. With our friendly academic and research environment, we foster the students to immerse themselves in learning and training in the areas of physics and challenges to tackle the problems in the current trends of physics. Today, with the active research engaged by faculty members in their given areas of expertise and the establishment of the physics labs, the Department of Physics offers great research opportunities both theoretical and experimental to the students in the diverse areas including Condensed Matter, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Laser and Plasma Physics and finally the newly established Astronomy group. With these given areas, the Department of Physics is keenly contributing its role and service to the development of science in both applied and theoretical aspects of the natural science realm.
