BS Physics (Specialization in Data Science)

Overview Curriculum

Overview

The Department of Physics at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore offers a 4-year BS Physics program with specialization in Data Science. The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in fundamental and applied physics while integrating modern concepts and techniques of data science, programming, statistical analysis, data visualization, and computational modeling.

The program is structured in accordance with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan guidelines and provides a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory experience, computational skills, and interdisciplinary learning. The Data Science specialization enables students to develop the ability to collect, process, analyze, visualize, and interpret scientific and real-world data using modern computational and statistical tools.

The program aims to produce graduates with strong analytical, quantitative, computational, and problem-solving skills who are prepared for advanced studies, research, teaching, and professional careers in physics, data science, computational science, scientific computing, and other data-intensive fields. Through laboratory work, computational projects, research activities, and interdisciplinary learning, the Department of Physics provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge to contemporary scientific and technological challenges.

The integration of physics and data science enables students to understand physical phenomena while developing the computational and analytical capabilities required to work with large and complex datasets. This interdisciplinary preparation equips graduates to contribute effectively to scientific research, technology, industry, energy, materials science, engineering, and other data-driven sectors.
